PROFILE OF WALTER AIDEN SPECIALIST CLINIC
Walter Aiden Specialist Clinic (WASC) is a multispecialty clinic and a cancer centre in Asokwa and is enviably accessible by looking at its location along the Stadium-Kumasi Mall Road, Hudson Road.
We provide three types of services: general, specialty and sub-specialty practices. We take pride in the fact that private hospitals and clinics usually offer a better standard of care. Opportunities to expand healthcare coverage, including cancer (oncology) care, can leverage the qualities within the private healthcare system and take advantage of the collective expertise of public healthcare to plan and treat patients to maximise outcomes. This is where (WASC) comes in handy. WASC seeks to become a centre of excellence in private healthcare delivery, particularly in female and childhood cancers in Ghana and beyond.
General consultation is the first step to addressing an individual’s health concerns. Typically, this lasts about 30 minutes. All first consultations will include an assessment of haemoglobin level (complete blood count), the minimal requested. This will give a panoramic view of the patient’s general health condition. Should the patient be found to have a chronic medical condition in the past or newly diagnosed, the attending clinician will also request a general biochemistry laboratory (liver and renal function test) investigation. WASC require clinicians to take requested blood sample personally. This promotes patient bonding and trust. An attending medical officer or a resident doctor arranges a follow-up consultation with a specialist if needed. A specialist can see a case outside their field of specialisation. Such consultation falls under the category of general practice as well. These patients will be booked for specialist consultation, ideally within three working days of the initial assessment and treatment.
Specialist consultation:Â The available specialist consultations include internal medicine (diabetes, hypertension, asthma, etc.), obstetrics (antenatal care, labour, and delivery) and gynaecology (fibroids, infertility, IVF, etc.), orthopaedics, general paediatrics, general & plastic surgery, psychiatry, and medical oncology.Â
Subspecialty consultation:Â The available sub-speciality services are breast care, including breast cancer care and reconstruction, gynaecology oncology (cancer of the female genital tract), and paediatrics oncology (childhood cancers). The charges will depend on the ancillary assessments done during the clinical care. Speciality and Subspecialty consultation can last up to an hour.Â
